  • JSW Steel's consolidated crude steel production rose 15 percent year-on-year in May 2026.
  • Indian operations contributed 21.98 lakh tonnes of total monthly production.
  • Capacity utilisation reached approximately 98 percent excluding BF3 capacity.

JSW Steel Limited (NSE:JSWSTEEL) reported consolidated crude steel production of 22.93 lakh tonnes for May 2026, registering a 15 percent year-on-year increase compared with 19.96 lakh tonnes produced during May 2025.

The company disclosed the production update through a stock exchange filing dated June 9, 2026. The increase in production was attributed to the full operations of the Dolvi facility and the complete ramp-up of JVML operations during the reporting month.

Indian Operations Drive Overall Growth

JSW Steel's Indian operations produced 21.98 lakh tonnes of crude steel during May 2026, compared with 19.17 lakh tonnes in May 2025, representing a 15 percent increase.

Meanwhile, JSW Steel USA's Ohio operations produced 0.95 lakh tonnes during the month, compared with 0.79 lakh tonnes a year earlier, reflecting a 20 percent year-on-year rise. Operational Factors Support Production Increase

According to the company, production was higher primarily because the Dolvi unit operated at full capacity during May 2026. In the corresponding period last year, one of the blast furnaces at the facility was undergoing planned maintenance shutdown.

Additionally, JVML operations were fully ramped up during the month, contributing to the increase in production volumes. The company also noted that Blast Furnace 3 (BF3) at its Vijayanagar facility is currently under shutdown for a capacity upgrade. The furnace is expected to restart during the second fortnight of June 2026.

Capacity Utilisation Remains Elevated

JSW Steel reported capacity utilisation of approximately 98 percent for its Indian operations when excluding BF3 capacity. Including the BF3 capacity currently under shutdown, overall utilisation stood at 87 percent during May 2026.

These utilisation levels indicate that the company's operating facilities continued to run at high levels despite the temporary shutdown related to capacity enhancement work at Vijayanagar.

Bhushan Power Transfer Impacts Comparison Base

The company stated that the steel business undertaking of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited (BPSL), a subsidiary, was transferred on a slump-sale basis to JSW-JFE Steel Limited in March 2026.

As a result, production figures relating to the transferred undertaking have been removed from the previous year's numbers to maintain comparability between the two reporting periods.

Stock Trades Higher Following Production Update

Following the production disclosure, JSW Steel shares were trading at INR 1,261.20 as on June 9, 2026, up INR 1.70 or 0.13 percent from the previous close of INR 1,262.40. The stock opened at INR 1,265.00 and touched an intraday high of INR 1,273.00. During the session, it also recorded a low of INR 1,257.10.
