3.37 GWh Battery Storage System Commissioned

Adani Green Energy announced commissioning of a cumulative 3.37 Gigawatt-hour Battery Energy Storage System at Khavda, Gujarat. According to the company, the project represents the world’s largest single-location battery storage deployment outside China.

The deployment includes 1.37 GWh capacity added in March 2026, taking total operational battery storage capacity at Khavda to 3.37 GWh. The company stated that the project was delivered within 10 months from commencement of on-site construction, making it one of the faster utility-scale battery storage deployments globally.

Focus On Renewable Energy Storage Expansion

The battery energy storage system is intended to support grid reliability, renewable power balancing and peak-hour electricity supply. Adani Green stated that the installed storage system can store sufficient clean energy to supply nearly one million homes for an entire day.

The company added that the project could support electricity demand equivalent to cities such as Indore and Chandigarh or the state of Goa. The storage project integrates lithium-ion battery technologies and energy management systems designed to improve grid responsiveness and operational efficiency.

Expansion Plans At Khavda Renewable Project

The company plans to add over 10 GWh battery storage capacity during FY27 and expand total storage capacity to 50 GWh over the next five years. The Khavda renewable energy project remains one of the company’s major infrastructure developments.

Adani Green stated that it is developing 30 GW renewable energy capacity at Khavda by 2029, of which 9.9 GW is already operational. The company currently operates a renewable energy portfolio of 19.7 GW across 12 Indian states and has a long-term target of reaching 50 GW by 2030.

Renewable Storage Gains Importance

Battery energy storage systems are increasingly becoming critical infrastructure for renewable energy integration due to variability in solar and wind power generation. The company stated that storage systems help manage intermittency by storing surplus power and supplying electricity during periods of higher demand.

According to the company’s statement, large-scale battery storage is expected to support dispatchable renewable energy delivery and round-the-clock clean power availability.
